Romain Boubert founded MAES Paris in 2020 with a simple conviction: the most remarkable objects are never born by chance. They are the result of countless decisions, made with patience, discernment and intention.

Trained as an engineer, he has always been fascinated by the intelligence of objects: the way a line, a proportion, a construction or a material can transform our perception of an object and allow it to endure through time.

His encounter with leather goods in the early 2010s revealed a world where every detail carries intention. Working alongside exceptional artisans, he discovered that behind the apparent simplicity of a beautiful object lies an extraordinary accumulation of expertise, precision and invisible decisions.

A few years later, the discovery of a new generation of materials opened a broader reflection. Not to replace tradition, but to expand what was possible. To understand that a material derives its value neither from its history nor from its novelty, but from what it allows the object to become.

That pursuit continues to guide every MAES creation today. Design gives the object its intention. Craftsmanship gives it precision. Material gives it character.

Whether rooted in centuries of leather-making tradition or in the newest generation of materials, every material is chosen according to the same standard: creating the right object.

"To me, the beauty of an object is always a matter of balance: between structure and emotion, between discipline and intuition, between what we inherited and what we dare to question.”

Romain Boubert.
